We have all spent way more time in our home's than any of us could ever imagine or are used to.
And by this point of our second round of cabin fever, most of us are probably longing to escape; to a retreat where we fell in love with a special or unique space.
What if the option to escape from the dishes piled in the sink, or from the makeshift home office setup on the dining table, was still within reach. In fact, just behind a door in your own home. That room you call your bedroom doesn't just have to be a bed, lamp, and a nightstand. That's right! Your bedroom can be just as special and unique as any other hotel room could be, but even more so, because you have the freedom to personalize it too.
Use this time forced indoors to your advantage with these Premier Tips, so you too can love the space you're in.

Form Follows Function
The very first thing you should do before tackling any room is asking yourself "How do I live?"
Start off by determining how you truly live in your bedroom. Do you spend most of your time in your bedroom winding down for the night, reading a book in bed or getting romantic with a significant other, or do you enjoy your mornings taking your time to rise, or have your coffee in a chair next to the window as you watch the morning show? Take the time to specify so it feels custom to you.
Space Planning
Determine just how much space you have within your four walls. Most importantly, how much functional space your bedroom allows for. Is there space for two nightstand or just the one: are you someone that needs drawers to tuck away everyday used personal belongings,
r are you more of a minimalist, and surface space serves your well? Is there room for a sitting chair to sit and remove your shoes. Can you fit a drink table next to that chair for your wine or bourbon? Make a list of all of the items you will need to serve your everyday function, and only bring in what is necessary. This is a place to relax and sleep, and having too much clutter could add a feeling of uneasiness or anxiety.

What Inspires You
How do you inspire to live? In the age of the internet, inspiration is at your finger tips. Do some research through the different platforms and save rooms that you're really moved by, or that reminds you of that special retreat. This will help you pin dow your design aesthetic: Modern, Contemporary, or Transitional, MCM, Hollywood regency or Glam, Urban or Industrial, or farmhouse. You can be hard-pressed on one, or if you're like most people, a combination for more of an eclectic look. Once you have your photos picked look for the commonalities within those spaces: color, fabrics, metals, textures, patterns, furnishings etc.
Finding that commonality will make for a cohesive space, and feel like you brought in a pro!
Color Me...
Dark and moody, white and bright, soft and muted, neutral and minimal , or vibrant hues are all pallets that can take your bedroom to so many places. Choosing your color palette will help guide the rest of your room to perfection.
Measure, Sketch, & Plan
With a tape measure, measure the length x width x height. Providing yourself with the proper dimensions, you can now plan out appropriate sized furnishings you need for your room, how many designated zones you have space for, a list of furniture to fill in those zones, and what size window treatments you will need to properly cover your windows.
Sourcing Fun
Now that you have your measurements for your bedroom, you now know the exact sized furniture you can fit into the space. Make sure to follow your measurements guide, because an oversized bed can really cramp any style. If you already have a piece you absolutely LOVE, let that be your statement piece, and shop the rest of the room around that. The beauty of shopping online is that you can use website filters to really narrow your search for sized and style. Making the experience efficient and enjoyable.
Vision Board
After you pick the pieces you absolutely LOVE, you should then bring them all together onto a mood board-- either printed and arranged on paper, or any software that allows for these arrangements digitally. Play around with your choices, and switch out anything that just doesn't feel right or just isn't your aesthetic. Once you have your layout you can tape in on a wall in your bedroom, and try to vision it in your space. If there isn' t something jiving, you still have time to switch the piece out and try, try again, until you get it right (You'll know when it's right.)
Time to Shop
You've pinned down your vision, color palette, and aesthetic and now it's time to shop! Don't be bashful about exploring second hand, vintage, antiques, or discount stores for your room. Pulling a room together can get very spendy--quickly, so save money wherever you can. Moving forward, for whichever room you're shopping for, remember to always include: something old/vintage/with a story, something from your travels, something warm and cozy, something bold, and something artisan or custom.
This list always elevates any space to that custom feel just for you and yours.
Style & Play
Now is the time to play, style, and accessorize. Move things around, stack them up, an whoosh that throw for that effortless look (Insider secret: It's not as easy as it looks.)
Have fun with it. You don't have to have perfected the first go around. And don't forget that style is ever evolving. As you grow and live life, your space can grow with you and all of with your memories too.
Finally, love the space you're in. Because everyone deserves a retreat they can escape to everyday. Everyone deserves to live a premier life!
