While much more common than solar eclipses, lunar (moon) eclipses are still pretty cool events if you're at all into space stuff!
The eclipse will start at 9:27 PM (tonight, Sunday night, May 15th) as you'll begin to notice just a little slice of the moon start to 'disappear.' By 10:29 PM the total eclipse is under way. This is when earth's shadow conceal's the moon. The moon is illuminated by the sun remembers. In a lunar eclipse the earth gets in between the moon and sun just perfectly. The moon will look reddish. You'll still be able to make it out but it won't be bright white.
The peak, when the moon is centered the most with earth's shadow will be 11:11 PM. It's best to watch the whole process from 9:27 to 11:11 and then you'll see the reverse from 11:11 PM to 12:55 AM.
And, guess what? We'll actually have mainly clear skies to see this whole event! Here's forecast cloud cover for the region at midnight Sunday night. (Shown is forecast cloud cover as a % of coverage of the sky: basically clear everywhere except far northern MN will have some scattered clouds).
Here's an animation of what it will look like.
HAPPY ECLIPSE VIEWING !
