Wet Monday, midweek snow

Writer: Sven SundgaardSven Sundgaard

The active pattern continues with a couple systems to deal with early and midweek. The first, Monday, falls mainly as rain in the Twin Cities with ice and snow just north.

Look for the first bands of freezing rain and rain showers shortly after midnight Sunday night into the early Monday morning hours. Initially there'll be some freezing rain possible in the Twin Cities metro but mainly north as the morning progresses and temperatures stay above freezing for most of the Twin Cities.

The best potential for ice accumulation continues to be east central Minnesota into northwest Wisconsin. Up to 1/4"+ of ice could develop in Pine County into western Wisconsin.

We'll see some snow still develop on the tail end of the moisture late Monday:

We'll see sunshine much of Tuesday with mild temps, in the 30s, but the next system will already develop snow showers by Tuesday evening into the first half of Wednesday. This time, while surface temperatures will be similar to Monday (above freezing), the temps aloft will be colder, meaning mostly snow.

The models still vary on amounts and location of those amounts:
